I didn't mean to imply that Einstein invented causality. He just used it as a basis, probably the principal basis of relativity. His thought experiment which explained that nothing could be faster than the speed of light was based on the conclusion that faster-than-light travel could lead to an effect happening before the cause in a certain frame of reference. That paradox was accepted as proof that nothing moved faster than the speed of light. The acceptance of relativity also included the acceptance of it's requirements.
