Of course, "They can't put anything on the internet that isn't true." LOL :) Good commercial.

That space.com article didn't seem like a big deal to me, we believe there is lots of dust in space and a star moving into some didn't seem alarming. Our atmosphere probably protects us from space dust, we know it does against most meteorites. The dark areas in the picture of the Andromeda galaxy below always seem to be referred to as 'dust lanes' and can be seen in many spiral galaxies, I haven't heard any other postulations for them. When processing the picture a lot of effort goes into making sure they show well. I have seen articles proposing that there is a great deal of interstellar dust between the galaxies, also articles speculating that most of the universe is made up of "dark energy". We don't have good data though so it is just speculation, need to keep that in mind, but keep an open mind or we would never come up with new concepts.

Local news is often good for 'providing the news' but they can editorialize things too. The big media companies are pretty blatant in how they want things viewed, it is kind of reassuring though to switch sources at times and know you are getting a different point of view.

ZeroHedge, Silicon Investor - certainly opinionated, always asking yourself, do I believe them, are they saying what the words say or referring to something else, or both. I think people who come to these sites know they have to form their own opinions and they pick and choose what they want to form an opinion about. These sites do provide nuggets of information that you can piece together with other info (from anywhere, or past experience) for an aha moment, even if you might not have the means to act on it.

Posting on these social media sites can still be intimidating though. The short sellers can be cruel for no reason, just like the longs can buy on impulse for no reason. It is nice to be able to post something and feel like you are contributing (helping) rather than causing somebody else harm. Sometimes you think it might be better not to say something, sometimes you feel you have to to counter others.

I can't find the Veil nebula visually in a telescope but that doesn't mean it isn't there (An OIII filter on the eyepiece makes it easier to find, thank you whoever thought of that).
