Unfamiliar with that movie or his story.
Plot synopsis:

Spoiled young man from the suburbs decides to live in the wild.

Sets off into the Alaska wilderness with a .22 rifle and little in the way of supplies.

He goes into the bush late in winter and crosses a river.

Finds an old abandoned school us and lives in it.

Finds some roots he thinks are edible They're not. They interfere with the body's ability to absorb nutrients.

He decides to get out. It's spring thaw and the river he crossed is a raging torrent. He can't get across.

Goes back to the schoolbus and dies of starvation.

Ironic thing is, if he'd asked around and gotten some local knowledge or, God forbid! Gotten a map, he'd have known there was a place to cross a couple miles downstream.

Written by Jon Krakauer, who wrote Into Thin Air.

The book is worth reading. Don't bother with the movie.
