Now here's a MUCH more useful purpose for 3D printing

Scale that up and bentway could order a woman - 5th element style.

Perhaps.

Although, it is difficult to be sure whether the ability to manufacture weapons will be a net positive or negative.

Weapons can serve both positive and negative interests. Early on, I would think it would be negative, but 50 years down the road it could well serve to support freedom. But who knows. The first order of business is to develop the necessary materials.

Guns & weapons will certainly be one of the less important developments of the technology, however.
