Hale and good tidings... to a very long time friend of myself and the thread......I see you have just returned.... come back from the storm.

You know Jimi Hendrix's very last performance was at the Isle of Wright mega festival in August of 1970.... I have the DVD video massive crowd, well over 500,000 and Hendrix's very last song was Shelter from the storm....

which is a Dylan song

"Shelter From The Storm"

I was in another lifetime one of toil and blood
When blackness was a virtue and the road was full of mud
I came in from the wilderness a creature void of form
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".

And if I pass this way again you can rest assured
I'll always do my best for
her on that I give my word
In a world of steel-eyed death and men who are fighting to be warm
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".

Not a word was spoke between us there was little risk involved
Everything up to that point had been left unresolved
Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".

I was burned out from exhaustion buried in the hail
Poisoned in the bushes and blown out on the trail
Hunted like a crocodile ravaged in the corn
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".

Suddenly I turned around and she was standing there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".

Now there's a wall between us something there's been lost
I took too much for granted got my signals crossed
Just to think that it all began on a long-forgotten morn
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".

Well the deputy walks on hard nails and the preacher rides a mount
But nothing really matters much it's doom alone that counts
And the one-eyed undertaker he blows a futile horn
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".
I've heard newborn babies wailing like a mourning dove
And old men with broken teeth stranded without love
Do I understand your question man is it hopeless and forlorn
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".

In a little hilltop village they gambled for my clothes
I bargained for salvation and they gave me a lethal dose
I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".

Well I'm living in a foreign country but I'm bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor's edge someday I'll make it mine
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born
"Come in" she said
"I'll give you shelter from the storm".

so when Jimi had the Beatles and Stones coming to check him out in London in1966, he then made his huge American return at the Monteray Pop Festival of June 1967...... one of his songs was Dylan's like a Rolling stone that was his famed return to the US.

And the final song he performed two weeks before his death he performed another Dylan epic... shelter from the storm......... he did not do all of these lyrics.....

I have pulled out the best Columbian Gold Wedgewood china and the 1848 British Sterling silverware.... complete with the 5 separete stamped seals on each piece.... for you Jon.

As I gaze at the lyrics, it makes me think of how far we have come .............and how far we have to go.

Hendrix always like to tune his guitar down half a key below perfect pitch especially the higher note 3 lead strings... and when you see him in concert he was always stopping between songs to retune and retuning during songs as he was trying to get multiple sounds at the same time out of one little beastie......

at Woodstock he was evolving his style and started out his Woodstock set with the sond "Message of Love" which was not a blues song and was an uplifting song that spoke of GOD....... He was evolving as an composer and would have done interesting things had he survived the Now Fabled "27 club"....... Amy Winehouse was the latest to enter those hallowed halls.

Woodstock had a very cool vibe with Dylan hanging out with "The Band" at the house known as Big Pink earlier that summer and Hendrix came to Jam.

Woodstock and the Apollo 11 moon landing happened almost concurrently and, Joe Namath had, done the metaphysically impossible as the NY Jets beat the unbeatable Colts....earlier that year........and the Amazing Mets.....Beat another best of all time Baltimore team in the World Series that year.

Miracles abounded and everything seemed possible. Anyone who saw the PBS special tonight on Silicon Valley which I highly recommend people go and retrieve on You Tube etc.......

My Dad worked for Grumman.... famous for the Fighting Jets but they and he was one of thousands of engineers that worked on the Apollo 11 landing module..... that history has it landed on the moon in 1969...... I have seen it at the smithsonian......'

back to Dylan and Jon......... when was the last time that anyone on the thread got this type of existential and wideranging response to a post on SI.?

John

dear John, after the central scrutinizer has assiuously studied your thoughts..... he has concluded that in our Quantum Mechanic 11 superstrings of reality has determined that this type of rational thinking

then commodity futures can go back to being close to their "textbook" purposes :

"price discovery" / hedging mechanism / economic indicator / etc.

actually belong five super string or super threads over in the old world reality universe.... we apologise that we have inconvienced you by luring you into this lurid sordid string of Quantum Mechanic superstring theory... this is is one of the dimentions that is available on the string down the hall....... safe passage to that stababilization platform.

Your genial transporter..... John
