Fully agree. 3 years ago I chose Samsung because it was the most open source Android phone, rejecting Motorola because Mot was hiding it's Android nature and was blocking user's ROM update. Samsung was making it's Android modification available at source level.

That is the most insane BS article I read in a while. The Galaxy brand IS Android. The Galaxy is nothing without Android. Where will the Galaxy be without Google Android updates. And Samsung works very hard to be one of the first with new updates to the latest Android OS. People choose it because of its great hardware and its great software. And if the Motorola XPhone is all that and more, they will choose it as well.

Could you explain why the HTC One X was such a commercial failure then? That handset matched the S3 in every review I read and owners seemed very happy with the device....and yet sales were a disaster.

It seems to me that branding was the biggest point of differentiation.

Of course, the problem for a company like HTC is that it is questionable whether their prospects will be any better with Windows where Nokia is so identified with the OS.
