I don't think it is way up on her list as Z suggested.

But it IS a valid consideration in evaluating school systems contrary to Z's claim.

She is not some ultra rightwing lunatic, though -- I think everything she did in DC was based on sound management principles. The dumbest thing DC could have done was to fire her.

I believe this woman has great potential to turn American education around. I know her focus is k-12, but I do wonder what she thinks about the university system. Perhaps she addresses that in her book, which I intend to read when I get some time away from reading technical crap which is all I'm reading right now.

My guess is she wouldn't have a problem with unions if they weren't so inflexible with respect to getting rid of incompetent teachers and demands for retirement plans weren't so out of control.

And not all of them are. But some of the worst school systems provide the most outrageous benefits.
