It took the (R)'s decades to assemble such a coalition of crazies, then the crazies finally took over. (R)'s used to be just the plutocrats, after TR. But, there weren't enough plutocrats to win elections, so they had to adopt the racists, the gun nuts, the bible-thumpers, that anti-tax zealots, the fetus worshippers, until the crazies realized THEY owned the (R) party. The thing is, the majority of Americans aren't nuts, and aren't going to follow where the crazies will lead.

The plutocrats, led by Rove, are in a struggle with the crazies for the soul of the party. They may have to cast some of the groups of crazies off to appeal to America at large. But, those crazies are some of their voters! It's driving them crazy!

In the near term, it's just good news for the (D)'s and America to have them in disarray. But for the 2010 redistricting, they'd probably have no control at all right now. That said, Republicans are the greatest threat facing America at the moment. They are the obstacle to fixing what ails America.
