The dems knew they were wrong but felt if they didn't go along with the pornographic patriotism following 9/11 they would not get reelected e.g. Kerry and Hillary's and other dems vote allowing bush to go into Iraq. Hillary and Kerry knew what happened to Gruening and Morse after they voted against the tonkin gulf rresolution.
