>> Do you honestly believe that a republican would have done more to reduce the debt during the worst economic downturn since the great depression ?

I'm not a fan of Republicans on this issue at all, but they are better than the Democrats. I don't think Republicans would have wasted that first trillion the way Obama did, and I think the Republicans would have done more to control waste than Obama has -- which has been absolutely NOTHING. I think Republicans would have enacted a budget, and I do believe that under Republican leadership some progress would have been made on the problems of SS & Medicare. I don't think Republicans would have enacted Obamacare, which will finish the job of breaking the country that began under Medicare. So, over all, Republicans would have done a far better job, even though they have their heads up their asses on many issues.

>> An economic downturn that came on GOP watch?

Totally irrelevant. We know that the CRA created the crisis, and that CRA is totally a Democrat initiative. We know the country's greatest problems today -- Medicare and SS, were creations of the Democrats. That Bush happened to be president when the wheels began to come off is totally irrelevant; these programs have been chipping away at the country's finance for decades.

>> Give us a break...even today I heard mort zuckerman say that, even now, we should not do anything towards austerity cost cutting, precisely because the economy is still in recovery mode. WTF?

I have the greatest respect for Zuckerman; but he IS a Democrat, and as such believes that government is part of the solution. His proposals have been consistent throughout the crisis - job retraining, low interest loans for both private and public entities that invest in infrastructure, and broader tax base.

Unemployment benefits should be eliminated TOMORROW in favor of programs where people have to work for the free money. If you want a job building infrastructure, fine -- but we're not GIVING you the money. A lot of Republicans would get on board with a commonsense proposal like this -- if what liberals really want is people to be able to find jobs, there it is.

Zuckerman, even though a Democrat, has shown utter disgust at the mishandling of the crisis by Obama, so don't get the idea he likes what he's hearing from DC. I don't always agree with him, but I would gladly support anything he wanted to do in lieu of what this incompetent president is now doing.
