And unconventional techniques allow you to drain vastly more acreage at less cost. I frequently travel Highway 70 between Shreveport and Texarkana. There is a small (maybe 100 acre) tract that probably has 50 pumpjacks on it. Today, drilling units of 1280 acres with laterals covering essentially the entire unit are not unusual.

So, I don't know what your complaint is. There is more oil, they're getting at it more efficiently.
