I know what you mean. I plan to use my REI bladder only in the summer. I'm quite sure it wouldn't work below zero.

In my old trapping days I sometimes got thirsty. It was a pain to get water if there was any because it was at the bottom of a snow pit where I couldn't reach it. I had a thermos of coffee, which didn't help much. I didn't like bananas or oranges because they were froze so hard I couldn't eat them, but I could eat apples. The apples helped. I could always melt snow too.
