I have been waiting for a clearer picture. I believe Graphene is one of those materials that could completely change the world and there will be tons of opportunities when that happens.
I guess that is part of the problem in trying to figure out the investment angle - so many possibilities.

CVD and GTI seem to be the most talked about public companies.
Just scratching the surface, the chart for CVD looks better. But, GTI has a low PE. Need to dig deeper.

The production is the obvious thing to focus on but a company would have to have a strong patent position to be able to capitalize on this. I wouldn't be surprised if the best ways to invest are the companies that use graphene to some significant advantage.

Funny that you mentioned 3D printing as I had the same thought today but I don't think it would be possible.

I had another crazy thought as well. I remember accounts of the Roswell incidence where a foil like material was found that was lightweight and strong to the point of not being able to cut it or burn it and exhibited "memory". Heck, if I was going to build a space ship I certainly would want to wrap it in something like Graphene. ;-)
