I can tell you with certainty that inflation in automotive is lagging. The reason is that somewhat iron-clad contracts are in place years before production starts and most of these are keyed for increases to hard material cost indexes. Labor increases...not so much, but hard data on raw materials yes. Many times I've lost future business due to a brutal renegotiation on a current contract, which can be the kiss of death for the replacement business.

I don't post him much, but this is spot on.
