Hey RW...

I know I was approached a couple of times by PM for my thoughts on who might make a good moderator (I voted yofal), so I had more or less assumed that Allen had reached out to a number of regular participants about this eventuality.

RW, if I can add my 2 cents might it be a good idea for a show of hand by those who might want the job? Some might not have the time to do it properly and some just might not want the job. I know I don't and that will come as a huge relief to everyone. I would be a terrible moderator.

May I ask how a person might be chosen? Secret ballot? If it's not secret there could be some ruffled feathers and enemies made. I would suggest 2 non running people to receive the votes. 2 so that no one thinks that a single person receiving the votes just picked the person they wanted. Of course no one here would do that but just to make everyone comfortable it might be a good idea.

Personally I am happy with clean86 but if everyone is more comfortable "electing" someone then the above is my 2 cents.

Annie, who would ban half the posters on any given day if she were moderator. :-)

While I appreciate the recommendation, I'd have to decline. Moderating the Qualcomm thread is more than enough for me.

OTOH, I agree with you that simply grabbing the moderator spot without even a token post on the subject seems to be a rather poor way to introduce yourself as the leader of the community.

A couple of more feathers.

There's plenty of people on this board who would make great moderators.

I like Clean, JF Sebastian, and slacker711 but come on, RW, there's so many more.

And there's this other thought - Allen taught us all so well.

Shouldn't we try, first, to moderate ourselves.

I appreciate you bringing this up RW, I think it's very important that we discuss these issues.

Personally I have no problem with Clean being moderator here, what I do have an problem with is that there was no discussion or process for deciding that. If the recommendations your post has gotten are any indication, then others feel the same way.

It just feels wrong to me that on the same day we learned of Allen's passing, a new mod was put into place without discussion and without seeing who else might be interested in the job.

I strongly believe it needs to be put to a vote and that we have a democratic process for selecting a new mod. That seems the fairest way to go about it.

As for me, I'll have to decline the nomination. There are many people here who would be better at that role than myself. All the people mentioned thus far would be great, and I'd put Trader J's name in the hat as well.

Anyway, I hope we can come to some resolution here. I trust that as a group we can decide the proper way to go with this.

no discussion of who would be the new moderator

Thought that was rather odd, myself. And with no heads-up or announcement from anyone. I'd like to hear from the SI powers that be about how we suddenly have a new moderator. What's the company policy on moderator selection? To be clear, I have no objection with regard to the choice. I would like for the appointment process to be more transparent, though.
