It's too bad in a way. The guy whose car was hijacked runs a Boy Scout camp right next door to where the cabin burned down and wanted to use the reward money to improve the camp. He had a gun pointed to his head and got away with his life and dog. He was the second to report his whereabouts.

The first to report him was the mother/daughter house cleaners who entered a cabin where he'd been staying, which, by the way, was right across the street from the police command post.

He was neither apprehended nor convicted, which makes the reward money question moot. They knew that when they put it up. They knew he was never going to be taken alive.
