James,,, Besides CPQs decision to use the K6 cpu in their "non-Intel" motherboards, would you care to guess which socket 7 chipsets they have been using for months now?

This is an AMD wafer process issue. AMD's 0.35 micron process cannot yield 233 MHz as originally specified.

AMD has had to change the operational voltage of the device to 3.3 volts, well above the 2.9 volts which was the original operating voltage for this process.

At first, AMD had to jack up the Vcc to 3.2 volts to get 233 MHz parts - UNDERSTAND? UNDERSTAND? UNDERSTAND? UNDERSTAND?

That wasn't sufficient.

Now they have goosed the Vcc up another 0.1 volt to 3.3 volts to achieve 233 MHz operation.

AMD is changing the operating voltage of the K6 to compensate for a process that does not yield 233 MHz parts at the original 2.9 volts operating point, or the jacked up 3.2 volts operating point.
