OSO Yikes 0.10 micron. That's out to the next millenium - probably
needs to wait at least for 300 mm wafers going to volume (2002) and
then a few more years for 0.1 line widths (speculation).

LSI does not need to worry about this right now. They have a 200 mm
plant at 0.25 ("0.18") doing zilch other than adding to depreciation
expense (next year).

The main problem (other than cost) is lithography tools for 0.10.
There's a whole bunch of posturing for EUV and 4 other techonologies
for lithography. Some say current optical lithography (CMP) will
survive to maybe 0.13 and possibly 0.10. After that who nows - xrays?

Just checked SIA stats. They indicate that 0.10 micron and 300 mm
begins in 2003 for MPU types. And 2006 for DRAM manufacturers.
It usually takes 2-3 years after initial ramp to get into the
mainstream. So for LSI probably down to the year 2005 maybe. Long long
time left.... LSI could be the STD cell INTC by then... or go bankrupt
trying... :-@
