Apology accepted and appreciated but not necessary.

Reading message threads, I often wonder not only about the psychology of the person posting but also of my own psychology at the time of viewing.....in other words, am I reading more intent/meaning into the words than the person on the other side of the cyber divide had in mind while typing? Was I having a bad/unusual day or were they? For that matter, were they even typing? Maybe they're speaking into a translator or speech recognition software? Maybe a word they use has a (slightly or) completely different definition to them than what I perceive its intention to be? Were they writing in generalities and I saw it as a personal reference?

And so on...

Here in America, too often we find people who are close minded about religious expression. Yet one of the foundations of our country is freedom of religion!! Hey, as long as one feels free to express his/her views then, by extension, one should also be able to tolerate responses that differ or challenge what was put forth..... without it becoming personal! I think it would be nice if this same understanding could find it's way into less tolerant cultures and societies all over the world! With this in mind, when I read "Hammer" in the context you wrote, I didn't think it bad form to write my view in response.

Anyway, I've enjoyed reading this thread for many years. Plenty to enjoy and lots of food for thought.

I know relatively little of Japanese culture and their religious practices. To some extent, I imagine religion and spirituality in Japan has had to change as their society has become "more open" (or maybe just exposed) to outside influences.
