Non lefties (except you) know that for YEARS now the Girl Scouts have been taken over by Planned Parenthood

In 2004, the CEO of Girl Scouts USA, Kathy Cloninger stated on national television that, “We partner with many organizations. We have relationships with our church communities, with YWCAs, and with Planned Parenthood organizations across the country, to bring information-based sex education programs to girls.” (You may view the video of Mrs. Cloninger’s statement at the bottom of this page) Despite this statement by the Girl Scouts CEO, which has never been retracted, GSUSA is now denying the national organization’s connections to Planned Parenthood. Additionally, GSUSA claims they do not take stand on matters of birth control or abortion, yet they continue to promote pro-abortion champions and resources to their members. All we are asking is that GSUSA be honest about this connection that CEO, Kathy Cloninger, has already confirmed on national television.

Why is it so concerning to us that the Girl Scouts organization is exposing girls to Planned Parenthood? Because Planned Parenthood teaches promiscuity to children, grooming future birth control and abortion clients. Because at Planned Parenthood sex-education events for youth, Planned Parenthood has distributed “educational” material, considered by many groups to be pornographic, to kids as young as 10 years old. To learn more about Planned Parenthood’s explicit sex education programs visit this resource.

The Girl Scouts organization does currently have connections (both past and present) to Planned Parenthood.

NATIONAL CONNECTIONS

What about the new GSUSA CEO, Anna Maria Chavez? See this resource detailing Mrs. Chavez's connections to Planned Parenthood and other abortion rights advocacy groups. The leadership may have changed but it appears the philosophy remains the same.

At the November 2011 Girl Scouts National Convention in Houston, several speakers affiliated with Planned Parenthood were featured. See our Convention Report here.

The Girl Scouts badge entitled " On Your Own" referred girls directly to www.PlannedParenthood.org, citing this resource as a Helpful Link. This badge was promoted on the official Girl Scouts USA site for girls called Studio 2B. Planned Parenthood reference is now scrubbed, but you can see an image of the badge requirements here. See top of page 2 for the Planned Parenthood link.

GSUSA promoted and recommended the website stayteen.org to girl members through the GSUSA Global Action Patch. GSUSA Patch Requirements sent girls to the stayteen.org to learn where a pregnant teen could go for help. Where does Stayteen.org send girls for "help"? Planned Parenthood.

In the GSUSA book for girls, Girltopia on page 10, GSUSA promotes Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood Executive Director Sheri S. Tepper. (This GSUSA recommended book -- that has been labeled as "feminist porn" -- and the author were promoted to girls by GSUSA for 3 years, 2009-2012. GSUSA now says the reference to Ms. Tepper and her book will be removed on the next reprint of Girltopia, reprint date unknown.)

INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS

According to International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and IPPF have a "close partnership." (see bottom middle column of page 2 of link for IPPF/WAGGGS connection) The WAGGGS promotes the right to "affordable, accessible, safe abortion" and sexual rights for youth. Note: See GSUSA's statement that every member of GSUSA is automatically a member of WAGGGS and supports them in name and financially. The $12 annual membership fee girls pay to GSUSA triggers a quota that is paid by GSUSA to WAGGGS. See this resource explaining the GSUSA-WAGGGS money flow.

LOCAL COUNCIL CONNECTIONS

Every local Girl Scout Council in the United States promotes, uses and sells the official GSUSA curriculum, called Journeys. These GSUSA materials refer girls to abortion rights advocacy groups and role models who endorse Planned Parenthood. See page scans from the GSUSA books at this link.

A substantial number of Girl Scout Councils have admitted they partner with Planned Parenthood. See news clip here. In addition to each council promoting abortion rights advocacy groups through the official Girl Scouts' curriculum, documentation below shows how many individual Girl Scout Councils are connected to Planned Parenthood:

ARIZONA

Sahauro Girl Scout Council/Girl Scouts Southern Arizona participated as a local partner for Planned Parenthood's "Real Life. Real Talk." sex education program for teens. (You can see the Girl Scouts' official logo and link to the council website right under the entry for "Pro-choice Clergy".)

FLORIDA

Girl Scouts Gateway Council works with Planned Parenthood and other abortion rights advocacy groups in the First Coast Girls Initiative.

GEORGIA

Girl Scouts Greater Atlanta (formerly Girl Scout Council of Northwest Georgia): Council hosted a WAGGGS leadership conference for teens to discuss global issues for teens. Event collaborators included Planned Parenthood. (This document provided by Life Decisions International)

NEBRASKA

Girl Scouts of the Great Plains: appointed Beverly Todd Nolte, a former vice president of marketing and lobbyist for Planned Parenthood of Nebraska and Council Bluffs, as CEO and leader of the 11,000 girl council.

  • Girls can receive graphic and detailed answers to questions like "How do girls who have sex with girls have sex?" and "How do guys who have sex with guys have sex?"
  • PENNSYLVANIA

Girl Scout Freedom Valley: Planned Parenthood Chester County announces in a Community Report that they are “pleased to have established a new collaboration with the Girl Scouts of the Freedom Valley, through which [they] were able to reach more girls while successfully managing growing program costs.” ( see page 4 of this document)

    TEXAS

Girl Scouts Bluebonnet Council: honored Pam Smallwood, Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood/Central Texas, as a Girl Scout "Woman of Distinction." This local council also sponsored a Planned Parenthood sex-education program for children, allowing the official Girl Scouts logo to be printed on Planned Parenthood's brochure advertising the event "Nobody's Fool: Dating, Love, Sex, and HIV?" Click here to see this brochure with the Girl Scout logo on it.

    TENNESSEE

Girl Scouts Heart of the So. Council (GSHS) hosts event with Planned Parenthood Speakers. VIRGINIA

Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast: honors Planned Parenthood Founder Margaret Sanger as a "woman who has made a significant impact in her profession or on society" in the Women of History patch for ages Kindergarten and up.

    OTHER

In addition to the above information, see this timeline documenting the GSUSA/WAGGGS connection to Planned Parenthood dating back to 1967.

Girl Scouts affiliation with other pro-abortion groups:

GSUSA promotes Media Matters in their printed materials for girls and recommends girls go to the anti-conservative www.mediamatters.org for reliable news. This organization supports Planned Parenthood and pro-abortion views. (GSUSA has announced MediaMatters will be removed on the next reprint of their MEdia book for girls, reprint date unknown)

Through the Global Girl Scouts Interest Project, GSUSA promoted and recommended the radical pro-abortion Global Fund For Women, co-founded by Frances Kissling, long time president of Catholics For Free Choice. This Girl Scouts-approved website is full of pro-abortion content.

Through the Global Girl Scouts Interest Project, GSUSA promoted and recommended the website of pro-abortion Amnesty International.

Girl Scouts San Jacinto Council in Texas teamed up for a girl event with the pro-abortion League of Women's Voters (LWV). LWV is a group who worked against proposals that would ban late term abortion, fought "conscience" regulations, and supported the Freedom of Choice Act. To read more about LWV abortion-rights advocacy, click here. The Houston Chapter of LWV that works with Girl Scouts Jacinto Council also opposes Rick Perry's Texas Sonogram Law, designed to allow women access to an ultrasound before they baby is aborted.

Girl Scouts San Jacinto Council in Texas honors Sylvia Garcia with their 2012 Success to Significance Award at their annual council event. In June 2011, Ms. Garcia's organization, National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) joined with Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and Planned Parenthood Trust of South Texas, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH), Catholics for Choice, EMILY’s List, and Annie’s List as co-hosts of a reception celebrating champions for Latina health during NALEO's 28th Annual Conference. See this link for Planned Parenthood's announcement of this event with NALEO entitled " Women’s Health Advocates Celebrate Champions of Latina Health" Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards praised Ms. Garcia for her help with the protection of "reproductive rights" (which of course includes abortion). At the 2011 NALEO Conference, Planned Parenthood was both a featured speaker and an exhibitor.

Bishops to Investigate Girl Scouts’ Planned Parenthood Ties

    by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 5/10/12
    lifenews.com

The nation’s Catholic bishops are coordinating an investigation of the Girl Scouts, following years of mounting evidence showing the youth organization having ties to the nation’s biggest abortion business, Planned Parenthood.

The ties between the two groups have been questioned ever since former Girl Scouts CEO Kathy Cloninger admitted on NBC’s The Today Show: “We partner with many organizations. We have relationships with…Planned Parenthood organizations across the country.” See the video here.

Then, in a national survey, seventeen Girl Scouts councils admit to partnering with Planned Parenthood; many other councils refuse to answer the survey question. Of the 315 Girl Scout councils in the U.S., 17 councils reported having a relationship with Planned Parenthood and its affiliates, and 49 reported they do not. The other 249 refused to disclose any relationship.

In 2010-2011 Girls Scouts in New York partnered with Planned Parenthood for a sex-ed program, “Real Life. Real Talk.” The program website touts their partners: “Real Life. Real Talk. is proud to count the following organizations, faith communities and companies as partners: …Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways.”

For fourteen year,s the Girls Scouts in Waco, TX co-sponsored a sex ed conference with Planned Parenthood. It’s Perfectly Normal” a book written by a Planned Parenthood executive was given to all children in attendance says abortion can be “a positive experience.”

And in January 2012, Girl Scouts employee Renise Rodriguez wore a “Pray to End Abortion” t-shirt during off-duty visit to her Tucson Girl Scout office and was ordered to her to turn the shirt inside out or leave.

Now, the Associated Press indicates the bishops will conduct a new inquiry conducted by the bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth.

It will look into the Scouts’ ”possible problematic relationships with other organizations” and various “problematic” program materials, according to a letter sent by the committee chairman, Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Fort Wayne, Ind., to his fellow bishops. The bishops’ conference provided a copy of the letter to The Associated Press, but otherwise declined comment.

Gladys Padro-Soler, the Girl Scouts’ director of inclusive membership strategies, denied any link to Planned Parenthood.

“It’s been hard to get the message out there as to what is true when distortions get repeated over and over,”she said.

Another Girl Scouts’ spokeswoman, Michelle Tompkins, also denied the links.

“I know we’re a big part of the culture wars. People use our good name to advance their own agenda. “For us, there’s an overarching sadness to it. We’re just trying to further girls’ leadership.”

But Mary Rice Hasson, a visiting fellow in Catholic studies at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, a conservative think tank in Washington, said the investigation was needed.

“A collision course is probably a good description of where things are headed,” she said. “The leadership of the Girl Scouts is reflexively liberal. Their board is dominated by people whose views are antithetical to the teachings of the Catholic Church.”

With a sizable number of pro-life advocates distrusting the Girl Scouts because of the various links to Planned Parenthood over the years, any investigation that turns up more damning evidence could make it even more difficult for the Girl Scouts to become a trusted commodity in the minds of many Americans.

Pelosi: Girl Scouts' Relationship With Planned Parenthood ‘Very Valuable’

February 1, 2012 By Elizabeth Harrington
    cnsnews.com

(CNSNews.com) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Planned Parenthood’s relationship with the Girl Scouts of America is “very valuable,” Wednesday, at a congressional reception to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the organization for young girls.

Rep. Pelosi was featured at the reception with a group of female government leaders to promote the Girl Scout’s new initiative “To Get Her There,” which seeks to create “gender balanced leadership” in one generation.

After the event CNSNews.com asked Pelosi: “The Girl Scouts has had some ties to Planned Parenthood, do you think that’s a valuable relationship to have working together?”

“The Girl Scouts have relationships with many organizations,” Rep. Pelosi replied.

“And, yes, I think they are all very valuable.”

The Girl Scouts have been linked to the nation’s largest abortion provider in the past. In 2010, a panel sponsored by the Girl Scouts USA at the United Nations Commission featured a Planned Parenthood pamphlet called “Healthy, Happy and Hot," according to published reports.

A portion of the pamphlet read: “Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse. But there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. Sex can include kissing, touching, licking, tickling, sucking and cuddling. Some people like to have aggressive sex, while others like to have soft sex and slow sex with their partners. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!”

A similar pamphlet was distributed at a Waco, Texas Girl Scouts organization in 2008 that included information on masturbation, diagrams of adults having sex and a boy putting on a condom.

That year then-CEO of the Girl Scouts Kathy Cloninger told NBC’s “Today” show, “We have relationships with our church communities, with YWCA's, and with Planned Parenthood organizations across the country, to bring information-based sex education programs to girls.”

A Girl Scout conference was also co-sponsored by Planned Parenthood in 2004.

Today’s event also featured Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Sen. Barabara Mikulski (D-Md.), and other members of Congress who praised the organization’s advocacy to increase the number of females in leadership positions in the U.S.

Girl Scouts may regret sex-ed partnership as snack sales suffer
RUSE: Planned Parenthood, Girl Scout cookie monster

Cathy Cleaver Ruse The Washington Times Monday, February 6, 201
    washingtontimes.com

Across the country, angry emails bombard official Girl Scout computers. In Northern Virginia, a Catholic church bans the Scouts from meeting on its property. An Idaho television station reports that a “rumor” about a Girl Scout-Planned Parenthood alliance is disrupting this year’s cookie sales.

Emails and random churches are one thing, the bottomline is quite another.

The cookie sale is the Girl Scouts’ largest fundraiser, bringing in close to a billion dollars annually. This year, some girls will come equipped with credit-card scanners to expedite the sale. But even high-tech toddlers won’t make up for the loss if overall sales are down.

Girl Scout headquarters knows that Planned Parenthood scares parents - why else would it publish an official disclaimer? Its website claims that “Girl Scouts of the USA does not have a relationship or partnership with Planned Parenthood,” and yet there is evidence everywhere that this is patently, even laughably, untrue.

For starters, it’s impossible to explain away the admission on national television by Girl Scout CEO Kathy Cloninger that the organization has a relationship with Planned Parenthood, and indeed, no such attempt has been made. Her words stand today as the single most damning admission of the truth on the matter: “We partner with many organizations. We have relationships with … Planned Parenthood organizations across the country.”

Long-standing relationships, it turns out. For 14 years, the Girls Scouts of Waco, Texas, co-sponsored a sex-education conference with Planned Parenthood featuring a book written by a member of Planned Parenthood’s Board of Advocates titled, “It’s Perfectly Normal.” This charming tome, given to Girl Scouts in attendance (some as young as 10), replete with graphic sketches of sex organs and techniques, tells kids that abortion can be a “positive experience.”

If Girl Scout defenders call this old news, show them the current Planned Parenthood sex-ed program, “Real Life. Real Talk,” where the Girl Scouts of NYPENN are listed as a valuable partner. (A screenshot of the page is saved at FRCBlog.com.)

A cottage industry of Girl Scouts watchdog groups has flourished online with names like Girl Scouts Why Not, 100 Questions For the Girl Scouts, Honest Girl Scouts, Speak NowGirl Scouts, and a Facebook page called Make-the-Girl-Scouts-Clean-Again. There are others.

Visit these sites to see Girl Scouts tax returns showing its annual million-dollar-plus contribution to the radical World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, an aggressively pro-abortion organization that openly partners with International Planned Parenthood Federation. (Incidentally, every little girl who signs up for the Girl Scouts is automatically made a member of this umbrella group.) See the biographies of speakers at the Girl Scouts’ 2011 national convention and discover their positions with Planned Parenthood and their promotion of Planned Parenthood. Read experts from Girl Scouts literature encouraging girls to visit Planned Parenthood programs and websites.

What has Girl Scouts headquarters in highest dudgeon, however, is the revelation that their “girls only” meeting at the United Nations included a sex book by Planned Parenthood. The meeting occurred during the annual Commission on the Status of Women in 2010 and the book, “Healthy, Happy and Hot” had tips for kids such as this one: “Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse. … But, there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!”

Girl Scout officials deny they distributed it, but Sharon Slater, mother of seven and president of Family Watch International, insists it was there. She tried to attend the meeting but was ushered out. Ms. Slater waited outside the door, slipped back in when it was over, and picked up one of the booklets from a stack on a table.

The Girl Scouts deny they distributed the brochure, but are they playing word games? They also suggest another group could have left it in the room, but their meeting fell on the first day of the Commission, and earlier groups in the room addressed climate change and counterterrorism.

Girl Scout officials feigning shock that a nasty Planned Parenthood book was found in their meeting is like Captain Renault in “Casablanca” feigning shock that gambling is taking place. It just doesn’t ring true. Planned Parenthood and Girl Scout executives are kindred spirits.

The Girl Scouts are trying to walk a fine line, really. Their challenge was well expressed by Idaho Girl Scouts CEO Shelli Rambo Roberson. After complaining the “rumor” was having an impact on cookie sales, she made a point of stressing that the Girl Scouts have nothing against Planned Parenthood - it’s just that the two organizations are completely separate.

In the end, the Girl Scouts want to keep their reputation and Planned Parenthood, too. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation dropped Planned Parenthood and received 20,000 emails of support and congratulation from pro-lifers and a surge in donations. It also received a public thrashing by Planned Parenthood and its media allies more vicious than anything in recent memory.

The best evidence that the Girl Scouts have not actually severed ties with Planned Parenthood is that Planned Parenthood has not tried to destroy them.
