We pretty much agree.... I would clarify that the natural flow dictates, Keynsian or not, that automatically the economy should run a surplus when doing well and a deficit during the downturns (Obama's first couple years at least, since it was a whopper). This has nothing to do with the government deciding to spend more to get us out of it (which I think is misguided), ala "stimulus". .. but simply less revenues and more people taking advantage of safety nets, etc... THIS IS THE NORMAL WAY OF THINGS. Unfortunately it is also the normal flow of things to run surpluses during the good times... but that never happened (OK, Clinton's supposedly balanced things but those probably should have been LARGE surpluses... as should have earlier administrations). This is simple business cycle stuff... if you believe in the business cycle... then this is the way things should work... SO trying to balance the budget every year IS misguided IMHO. No one does that... family's don't even do that, they save during good times and when the shit hits the fan they dip into savings.

So long story short, both left and right are blowing smoke IMHO... this self righteous balanced budget amendment stuff is BS... and the Stimulus was worse than BS... if people are actually starving or whatever... absolutely you have "stimulus" in the form of helping them out of course.

ON FDR: Well, if we had soup lines I may actually be in favor of "projects"... that's NOT the case today (yet!)... I have no idea how dire things were back then so will defer to "historians". LOL

Chinese: We've been sending dollars over there by the hundreds of billions... you get some moron in there telling them they cant buy whatever the hell they want over here and I'll show you one whopper of a depression .
