Trent Franks: ‘Astonishing’ that Obama Never Mentions the Muslim Brotherhood Patrick Burke

(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) says “it’s astonishing” that President Obama never mentions the Muslim Brotherhood and its control of the Egyptian government.

“He never mentions the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s astonishing. If there’s anything that has been a trend in this administration related to terrorism, it’s their unwillingness to call it for what it is,” Franks told CNSNews.com immediately following Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Franks also views the Muslim Brotherhood as a threat not only to the security of Israel but to the entire world.

“And the Muslim Brotherhood has gained control of the reins of government in Egypt. It’s that fundamentally simple,” he said. “And it represents not only a threat to Israel and other nations in the region – it represents a destabilizing factor and force in the whole world.”

The veteran Egyptian organization, which spawned the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in 1987, promotes the application of Islamic law (shari’a).

In his State of the Union address, President Obama spoke of his support for the “universal rights” of individuals in Middle Eastern countries.

“In the Middle East, we will stand with citizens as they demand their universal rights and support stable transitions to democracy,” Obama said.

“We know the process will be messy, and we cannot presume to dictate the course of change in countries like Egypt, but we can and will insist on respect for the fundamental rights of all people,” he said.

Following the so-called “Arab Spring,” the Muslim Brotherhood won control over both parliamentary houses in Egypt during elections held in the winter of 2011-2012. In June 2012, Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi was elected to the presidency.

CNSNews.com reported on Jan. 2 that 13 Egyptian men believed to be affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested in the United Arab Emirates for trying to recruit members and lecturing on bringing down Arab governments.

Did they ask was Barney Franks career over when his prostitute boyfriend was caught running a gay whore house out of his home?

At least Rubio only took a drink of water. It's not like he drove into the water and left a young girl to drown in it. Who was that again?

On Wednesday's The Situation Room, host Wolf Blitzer absurdly wondered if Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) pausing his State of the Union response for a drink of water would "break" his career. The CNN chyron flashed "Career-ender?"

"So can a drink of water make or break a political career?" Blitzer asked. "A U.S. Senator, possible presidential candidate. We're going to find out, whether he likes it or not."
