The problem is neither you nor Krugman can offer an optimal solution vs time. IMHO, economic theory must offer some theoretical basis for the deficit as a function of time vs conditions to be taken seriously. Otherwise its every man's WAG.

Simply saying now is the time to spend, or now is the time to tighten, without being able to show what the time integral of that approach is, is nuts.
