Here's a tidbit:

"It was a decent October and a good summer. Then, all of the sudden, in November, they drop off...November is generally pretty strong," said Doug Antone, chief operating officer at Ingram Micro, the world's largest computer distributor. "It caught people by surprise."

Bearded one, I don't think you really understand the differences
between a workstation and a server.

Here is just one of many issues..

Workstations are used for among other things CAD/CAM 3D modeling
graphically intensive use and therefore have been designed
and optimized for video traffic. This is a big cost adder
especially if the "end" video solution is integrated.

Servers have no requirement for video performance whatsoever.
A cheap monitor and video card is all most would need.

Anybody buying a WS to be used as a Server is wasting money
on the wrong set of optimized performance features.

About Dell's lowering prices. What percentage do they usually
lower prices for products from fist-customer-ship to end-of-life
and at what intervals? What is historically the "norm" for
Optiplex products and does yesterday's announcement deviate
significantly from that?
