If an analyst is releasing material news to a select few, prior to the actual release, that's called, in my book, illegal dissemination of info.
I may be naive, and correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm sure such pre-release activity DOES happen in the industry.
And re takeover talk...it seems it happens on every thread when a stock gets clobbered and generally is baseless. Just because Reed comes from NYNEX, that means little in an acquisition by Bell Atlantic. Schmidt came over to Novell from Sun, and Sun hasn't taken over Novell, and there are many, many other examples...

I guess that would explain why only 25% of the street actually manages to beat the indexes every year!!! The remaining 75% of them must be rather lousy at what they do!
