Nietzsche's quote is IMO was both right and wrong in this context. These Senators and Congresspersons are doing the job for their bosses. Literally. Paid and empowered to make "horrible" and self-destructive look patriotic. They were purposefully elected with a mission to line the pockets and insulation of a certain exceptional segment of America. The part the public sees comes out of focus groups and PR Agencies usually via scripts. The thing about McConnell is that he is so bad at it. Fortunately, trading your soul is not something for most normal men and women. The supply of the alpha-horrible is limited -- apparently the supply of blinded and fearful followers is in large enough supply.
