Bike Lane Money

Remember those bike lanes Rahm is making? Up to $140,000 per mile. For that price, they should be smooth as glass, smell like spring daisies and be heated during the winter so the bikers don't freeze their asses off.

So what is this?

That's a rough looking ride. A reader sent these in while driving the boulevards on the way to court one day. The city boulevard system used to be one of the little known pathways from the north to to the south sides through the west side. Four lanes wide, scenic, a nice alternative to the Kennedy and Dan Ryan expressways. Rahm has cut it to one lane in each direction.

Another pitted and broken bike lane. That would be hard to navigate in a car, let alone a bicycle.

This picture above and the one directly below are amusing. Rahm and the people over at Streets and San might claim the entire series of pictures is just winter road damage - potholes appearing during the freeze/thaw cycle that dot all of the sub-standard paving done in Chicago. But if you look closely at the paint markings, you can see where it actually ran down into the potholes, cracks and dips in the road. Rahm is paying $140,000 per mile by slapping some white paint over existing damaged roadway, without even bothering to fill the holes, smooth the divots or sweep away the broken asphalt littering the street.

And a commentator in an earlier post said the bike lanes running down Independence Boulevard are being erased...sanded off, due to parking issues?

So is the media going to step up, do their jobs, be the watchdogs protecting the taxpayers from a corrupt city government that is obviously lying when they claim to be spending money on bike lanes? Anyone want to guess where that money might be going? Or is Rahm going to rub their tummies again and make it all go away?
