I could see myself voting for him, but I think it reasonably likely the Democrats could successfully convince enough moderates that he was "an extremist" to keep him for winning. (Should he run in the first place which is unlikely)

Reagan offered Sowell a cabinet post, which he turned down.
As he told Forbes, “I don’t want to make policy. There are thousands of people in Washington who can formulate policy. What’s really crucial is that they have the facts straight before doing it, which by no means is the usual case.” Sowell did join the White House Economic Policy Advisory Board in February of 1981, but resigned after one meeting, saying the trip from his Palo Alto, California, home was too much of a strain.
Searching for this info brought up a series of attacks, the sort Dr. Carson can expect if he continues. Conservatives need brass knuckles and pugilistic enthusiasm.
