[Ascend-Alcatel]

My ADSL vigilance has been waning. Sorry if this has been posted. Cheers.

BRUSSELS, Belgium--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 3, 1997--Alcatel Mietec announced today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ascend Communications under which Ascend will use Alcatel's DynaMiTe ADSL DMT(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - Discrete Multi-Tone modulation)chipset and firmware in its access products. The agreement covers technology for both customer premises (ATU-R) and central office (ATU-C)equipment and is expected to lead to product introductions in the second quarter of 1998.

[Merrill downgrade]

Steve,
I saw that. I do wonder how valid it is for TI. Aren't they primarily a DSP supplier now? Or did Merrill take that into account?

Pat,

I'm glad someone finally sees it in the proper light! :) I've read enough in previous posts to make me nauseous. Seems people like to be lead down the garden path. Does M.L. know that it's not their Fathers DSP anymore. With TI a year or more ahead of the rest of the industry. DSP has changed in form, function, and usage. It's a New DSP World, perhaps M.L. gang should take a vacation cruise on the Pinta or Nina, this would give them time to catch up on the Status Que. I'm sure the entire street does not have the same view.

Though a nice dip after the split makes for a nice place to jump aboard, which was more than likely the plan anyway.

[Kurlak and TXN]

<< I do wonder how valid it is for TI. Aren't they primarily a DSP supplier now? Or did Merrill take that into account? >>

Kurlak may have ulterior motives for his recommendations but he isn't stupid, and he's been covering the semi sector for a looong time.
