Biden: 'Buy a Shotgun, Buy a Shotgun'

VICE PRESIDENT SAYS SEMI-AUTOMATICS AREN'T NECESSARY

(NEWSER) – This isn't as weird as it sounds in full context, but Joe Biden today urged people to buy shotguns while speaking at a town hall hosted by Parentsmagazine. During the forum, Biden took a question from someone who asked whether a proposed ban on semi-automatic weapons would put ordinary citizens at risk, reports the Hill. No way, said the VP. "If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barrel shotgun."

He then relayed that he owned two himself and once instructed wife Jill to fire a few blasts around the house if there was trouble. "You don't need an AR-15," he said. "It's harder to aim, it's harder to use and, in fact, you don't need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun. Buy a shotgun."

All 4 Gun-Control Measures Pass Colorado House

THEY ADDRESS HIGH-CAPACITY MAGAZINES, BACKGROUND CHECKS, CONCEALED WEAPONS

(NEWSER) – Colorado has taken the first step toward serious gun-control reform, with a package of four bills passing the state House yesterday, the Denver Postreports. The bills:

Ban gun magazines with more than 15 rounds.Require all gun transactions to include a background check.Make gun buyers pay a fee to cover those background checks.Prohibit concealed weapons on college campuses.

The state Senate is the next stop, but though it's controlled by Democrats, the votes may be close: Eighteen votes are needed for passage; the Democrats' majority is 20-15, and at least two Democrats are wavering. If they pass and are sent to Gov. John Hickenlooper, he has said he backs three of the four and is still reviewing the concealed-carry bill.

Eric, stupid straw man arguments aren't going to bring more people back into the fold.

Few people want to abolish the 2nd amendment. The Supreme Court already argued that the 2nd amendment guarantees an individual's right to own firearms, but that right is subject to regulations. The debate is over how much regulation is needed.

NRA-types go apes--t whenever ANY sort of regulation is proposed. Yes, ANY. That sort of extremism alienates the public.
