'Knockout Game' perp shot, killed

During apparent burglary, ran into 'right person' with gun
byColin Flaherty
Wednesday, February 20, 2013
wnd.com

Tiffany Thompson got her wish: Demetrius Murphy met the “Right Person” and he will not be playing the Knockout Game any more. Ever.

A St. Louis homeowner shot Murphy dead late last week during a burglary. And a whole lot of people in St. Louis feel relieved, if not safer.

Murphy was a member of a group that is credited with making the Knockout Game a St. Louis tradition, then a national pasttime.

The rules of the Knockout Game are simple: Begin with a bunch of black people. Anywhere from three to 30.

Find a white person, but an Asian will do. Alone is important. Older is better. Weak and defenseless even more so.

Without warning, punch that person in the face as hard as you can. You win if you score a Knockout.

If not, keep punching until your arms and legs get too tired to continue. Or the person dies.

You can play anywhere, but “vibrant and culturally mixed” neighborhoods are probably the best. That is where the victims are: Asians, “gays,” artists, yuppies, seniors , college students – people who won’t fight back.

Over the last two years, hundreds of people around the country have become victims. Some say over 100 in St. Louis alone. Some died. Others, like Murphy’s victim Matt Quain, suffered broken bones in his face and jaw.

Last week, four members of the national Championship Alabama football team were arrested after three played the game two times, and the fourth tried to use a debit card taken during the attacks.

Many of these cases of black mob violence are documented in the book “White Girl Bleed a Lot: The return racial violence and how the media ignore it.”

Murphy and his friends were arrested in November 2011 when police found a 13-year-old girl who witnessed the Knockout Game assault on Quain. The charges were dismissed after she failed to show up. The mayor of St. Louis said there was no doubt in his mind the witness was intimidated and too frightened to testify. The mother of the witness said the same several months later.

The gang was jubilant, and took to FaceBook to say so. “FREE ALL MY TKO GUYS,” said one of the members of the mob that was freed, reported the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Two days later, two members of the group tracked down Quain and threatened him again.

He threatened them with pepper spray and they ran.

The pace of the Knockout Game picked up in other places with other victims. That is when Tiffany Thompson made her wish at a news site reporting the results of the latest St. Louis victim:

as a black woman i will say this, i wish they would run into the right person who is armed to defend themselves with a firearm…i bet we will see a drastic decrease in violence in our city. it is embarrassing and shameful – the image these losers portray of blacks in st louis. i do not and never will reside anywhere besides the suburbs of this city, because no one is safe among these savages. do not get angry when people call them thugs, because that is exactly what they are and no excuses can be made for this barbaric behavior! it’s disgusting!!!

That “right person” was a St. Louis homeowner who found Murphy and a friend in his backyard at 1:30 a.m.

Missouri citizens are protected by the so-called Castle Doctrine that allows the use of deadly force against intruders.

But Murphy’s friend, a 17-year-old man, was charged with murder because he was an accomplice to a felony where a person was killed.

Murphy’s grandfather, Paul Furst, told KSDK that Murphy was mentally challenged did not deserve to die:

I believe this is another one of the Trayvon Martin stories where people are getting so gun happy they shoot just on impulse now. I could understand if he was a threat. But on the property, he was not a threat.

Murphy’s grandfather had nothing to say to a neighbor who said he, too, was a victim of Murphy: Jonathan Preiss told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

“I live 3 houses down from where the shooting took place. I believe they are the ones who threw a rock and a brick into my window, stole my tv, ps3, wii and games as well right before this happened. They ransacked my room, no regard for my property. I am still freaked out over this whole thing. I hope this is a lesson of the consequences for violating my community’s privacy.”

Murphy was 15 years old.

Retirees Are the Casualties of the Currency War: Schiff

By Jeff Macke

There's a currency war being waged and Peter Schiff of Euro Pacific Capital has some good news and bad for America. On the positive side Schiff thinks the U.S. is in position to win this particular conflict in a big way. Alas, that's not quite as positive as it initially seems.

"Unlike a conventional war, the objective in a currency is to kill yourself," Schiff declares.

The reason countries are debasing their currency is because it inflates corporate profits and makes it cheaper to pay back debts. The U.S., having borrowed trillions, prefers to pay those debts back using less valuable (debased) money. The lenders don't like it but for the borrowers a currency falling in value is like new found money. At least for a while.

There is no free lunch. The price the U.S. pays for this currency debasement is that it amounts to a transfer of wealth from loaners to borrowers not just on an international level but also locally. Even miniscule inflation is losing out to many government securities favored by ultra conservative, generally aging investors.

Related: America Is Becoming The United States of Britain, Says Schiff

If and when inflation kicks in the way Schiff and others predict, the problem gets even worse. Suddenly nest eggs will have almost no buying power, those who borrowed recklessly get rewarded, and the economic world as we currently know it becomes a much more complicated and unpleasant place.

Other countries have now gotten on board the debasement bandwagon but Schiff says they won't be able to compete with the U.S. for long.

"We're going to win the war which means Americans are going to lose," he concludes.

Obama Vowed To Use Veto To Keep Sequester

Obama pledges to veto effort to undo automatic spending cutsBy Kevin Hechtkopf | November 21, 2011

President Obama is promising to veto any effort to undo the automatic spending cuts that are set to take effect now that the congressional supercommittee has announced its failure to strike a deal to cut $1.2 trillion from the deficit over the next 10 years.

"Already some in Congress are trying to undo these automatic spending cuts. My message to them is simple: No," Mr. Obama said from the White House briefing room Monday evening. "I will veto any effort to get rid of those automatic spending cuts to domestic and defense spending."

"There will be no easy off ramps on this one.," he added…

Even though Head Start will be ended for 70,000 poor children and more than 373,000 mentally ill patients will be left untreated?

But, granted, this isn’t quite as stark of a contradiction as it might sound at first. Obama was saying that he would veto any attempt to change the sequester if the Republicans did not agree to a tax increase. But they did agree to a tax increase. (The first time they have done so in more than twenty years.) And Obama still refuses to budge.

In fact, Obama and the news media now pretend that the $600 billion dollar tax increase (which is half the sequester cuts) never happened.

Some in Congress want to undo those cuts, particularly to defense spending, but Mr. Obama said he would not accept that. He called on Congress to come up with a deal in the next year to avoid that.

"One way or another we will be trimming the deficit by a total of at least $2.2 trillion over the next 10 years," he said. "The only way these spending cuts will not take place is if Congress gets back to work and agrees on a balanced plan to reduce the deficit by at least 1.2 trillion dollars. That’s exactly what they need to do."

In other words, Obama was only willing to undo the sequester if he could raise taxes. In fact, that is his sine qua non for practically everything.

Mr. Obama called on Congress to come up with what he called a "balanced" plan that includes both spending cuts and tax increases, and he blamed Republicans for the supercommittee’s inability to strike a deal.

"They continue to insist on protecting $100 billion worth of tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans, at any cost, even if it means reducing the deficit with deep cuts to things like education and medical research, even if it means deep cuts in Medicare," he said. "So at this point at least, they simply will not budge from that negotiating position. And so far, that refusal continues to be the main stumbling block that has prevented Congress from reaching an agreement to further reduce our deficit."

Lest we forget, the Republicans have ‘budged’ and raised taxes on the so-called rich by at least $60 billion dollars a year. (The first tax increase they have signed on to for more than twenty years.)

But Obama still refuses to compromise and allow any reductions in spending until taxes are raised still more.

Meanwhile, Republicans blamed the president and Democrats for the failure of the supercommittee.

"The Supercommittee’s failure is a direct result of President Obama’s negligence and Democrats’ intransigence," RNC chair Reince Priebus said in a statement. "Over the last four months, Republicans on the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction worked around the clock to offer multiple proposals that would have broad bipartisan appeal. While Republicans were at the table negotiating in good faith, President Obama continued to prioritize campaigning over governing."

Gee, that sounds familiar. Some things never change.

By pledging to veto changes to the automatic cuts, Mr. Obama says he’s trying to pressure Congress to come up with a deal in the next year.

"We need to keep the pressure up to compromise, not turn off the pressure," he said. "Although Congress has not come to an agreement yet, nothing prevents them from coming up with an agreement in the days ahead."

Once again, the Republicans did compromise. Big time. And we see all the good it’s done them.

Currency Wars Will Lead to a World War: Gerald Celente

President Barack Obama will host Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for talks in Washington Friday. Meanwhile, Japan’s aggressive moves to devalue the yen have been at the center of fears over “currency wars,” which the G20 hoped to dismiss once and for all Saturday. The group of 20 major developed and emerging nations issued a commitment to refrain from competitive devaluations at their meeting in Moscow.

Trends forecaster Gerald Celente isn’t taking the bait.

“We’re in a currency war,” Celente, the editor and publisher of the Trends Journal, tells The Daily Ticker. “Who are they kidding?"

“The only reason world economies are doing anything is because of all the cheap money they’re dumping into the system,” he adds. “But they don’t call it currency wars, they have ‘white shoe boy names’ for them.”

Those "names" he refers to include central bank bond purchasing policies like the Fed’s Quantitative Easing and Europe’s Outright Monetary Transactions (OMT).

While some argue the potential for a currency war is just one possible byproduct of unconventional central bank polices, which are likely to continue, Celente sees it differently.

“I see this as a replay of history,” he says. “I see this as a lead up to world war.”

The history he references is the Crash of 1929, followed by the Great Depression, currency wars, trade wars, then World War. He sees the parallel today being the “Panic of ‘08,” followed by what he believes is a “depression” in some regions (e.g. Spain, Greece, parts of the U.S.). He sees the current currency policies as the currency wars that lead to trade wars, eventually leading to all out war.

In the context of current monetary policy, Celente believes the U.S. Dollar will be just another debased currency.

Obama’s Cowardly Mendacity Over Sequestration
By: Daniel Horowitz ( Diary) | February 20th, 2013 at 11:54 AM | 17

RESIZE: AAA

In August 2011, Obama hatched a deal to grant himself a free $2.1 trillion increase in debt, which would take him past the 2012 elections, thereby sparing him the embarrassment of another debt limit request during the campaign season. He knew that such a request was so bold it needed to be ensconced in a deal that would give voters the impression he was committed to cutting spending. To that end, the Budget Control Act called for the creation of a super committee to identify $1.2 trillion in baseline cuts and tax increases. Given that the committee would be evenly split between Republicans and Democrats, Obama knew that this would trigger the sequestration. And that is exactly what he wanted.

Nobody could accuse Republicans of designing the sequester. Only a leftist like Obama would ensure that the one mechanism to actually cut spending would disproportionately cut defense. For example, this year’s sequester will cut $42.7 billion from defense, $28.7 billion from non-defense discretionary spending, and $14 billion from mandatory spending, most notably, to healthcare providers. Obama figured that Republicans would be so scared of the defense sequester that they would come to him begging for a reprieve. That way Obama would be saved from cutting one penny of spending from any account, and could possibly leverage more tax increases in exchange for letting them off easy with defense spending cuts.

A free $2.1 debt limit increase in exchange for nothing but defense cuts and possible leverage to raise taxes…..sounds like a nice plan, doesn’t it?

In 2011, Republicans went along with this insane plan. As a result, we burned through the $2.1 trillion in new debt in just 17 months. We actually increased spending during that time period. Now the time to pay the infinitesimal price of spending cuts has come due. Conservatives decided to draw a line in the sand and not fall into Obama’s trap. While we don’t like the fact that 50% of the cuts will come from the most important part of the budget, which only represents 20% of total outlays, we will not pass up an opportunity to cut non-defense discretionary spending; nor will we be suckered into more tax hikes.

Before it became clear to Obama that conservatives were willing to stand on principle even in the face of defense cuts, he actually threatened to veto any repeal of the sequester. Now that we are calling his bluff, he is saying the world will come to an end if we don’t repeal it. The reality is that Obama couldn’t care less about defense. All he cares about is the non-defense spending. The federal budget sans base defense spending is roughly $3 trillion. A $42.7 billion cut is approximately 1.4% of the rest of the federal budget. If you can’t handle a 1.4% cut off your record high baseline after concocting this plan in exchange for your debt limit increase, you are nothing but a coward, Mr. President.

This needs to be the message emanating from Republicans. Instead of buying into Obama’s message of doom, Republicans need to pocket this victory. They should let the American people know that they are willing to let go of their scared cow; now it’s time for Obama to man up and accept his own spending cuts, which are smaller than the defense cuts.

The real concern for conservatives is that too many Republicans are refusing to take yes for an answer, and accept the sequester. Instead, they are trying to fight it, even though most of them voted for it, while squandering their political capital to fight Obamacare in the upcoming continuing resolution. Some “anonymous” aids have already suggested they will never fight the CR.

With such poor messaging over the sequester, as so astutely noted by Byron York, it’s no wonder conservatives like Jim Bridenstine are smelling another capitulation.

Boehner and McConnell need to put out one more statement challenging Obama to keep his word on his own deal, just like they are (hopefully) willing to uphold their end of the deal on defense spending. Then, they must move on and immediately begin assailing Obamacare every day for the next month.

Obama is on the run. Republicans are the only ones who can save him.

Demetrius Murphy, 15, and a 17-year-old were allegedly trying to break into a St. Louis home near Gravois Park last night when a man and a woman inside realized something was going on.

The 33-year-old male then got his gun and went outside to investigate the disturbance -- as Murphy reportedly started approaching him.

The man then shot Murphy dead, police say.

What happened to the second alleged burglar?

The 17-year-old, who police have not yet named, but are calling a burglary suspect, was eventually located and taken into custody.

The burglary-shooting happened at around 1:30 a.m. this morning at the 3700 block of Tennessee Avenue. Inside the home was the 33-year-old white male who eventually fired his gun and a 28-year-old white female.

Google Maps
Block of the shooting.

Police say Murphy was a black male who lived on the 4600 block of Louisiana Avenue, south of where the shooting took place.

The Post-Dispatch notes that in Missouri, people who encounter intruders in their homes or cars or on their property can legally use deadly force. The paper also notes that the second teenager could be charged for felony murder since Murphy died during the burglary and he was an accomplice.

It was a bloody night in St. Louis; just one hour later on North Broadway, three males -- in baseball hats with shoulder length dreadlocks driving a Chevrolet Impala -- pulled up to another car stopped a red light and fired two shots at the vehicle, police say.

This car had a 22-year-old black male and 21-year-old black female inside. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was in critical, but stable condition, after suffering a gunshot wound to the right arm and chest. The man was uninjured.

Here's the full blotter report from SLMPD regarding last night's violence.
