I'd rather have excess executive pay than the primary alternative which is to give them stock options. Better would be shares of stock that they're not allowed to sell for 30 years.

Another way of looking at the "problem". If US companies pay so much more than the rest of the world, and US taxes for the wealthy are so much less than elsewhere, why is it that the list of the world's billionaires isn't completely dominated by the US? Here's Forbes' figures for the top 10. Note that the US percentage has been decreasing these past 12 years:
