ON the contrary -- a registered gun can be traced. If I buy fifty guns and sell them to people who use them in crimes, I am a criminal if it is illegal to do so and the guns can be traced back to me -- but the guns need to be registered and a legal sale would require a background check of the new buyer before your liability is released. If you tried to sell a gun to a criminal the background check would prevent the sale and hence prevent you from getting out of your responsibilities as the registered owner.

This is not rocket science. I assume your car is registered. If it is in an accident you will be liable even if you are not in the car assuming you are the registered owner. The only way to relesae your liability is to legally have the car registered with the new owner.
