I have absolutely no disagreement with your point here at all - very valid. BUT, that is backward looking - not forward. We can spend all kind of energies discussing how we got here, but the simple fact is that both parties played a role. Alex claimed I said an equal role and if I did, that wasn't what I meant. I have no idea who is most at fault and don't give a shit about discussing that issue. What is important for me is for politicians (and people in power of persuasion) to understand that there are things that make this time much worse - like the baby boomers, like health care cost and like our living longer. These issues combine to make the future look very bleak as far as the economy goes.

As to your chart; its somewhat outdated, the real number is off the page now. There isn't even a hint Obama will be able to change that line of increase.
