He's doing his job. He's telling you (us) to pressure Congress to come up with a solution by using our Bully Pulpit. Are you holding up your end of the deal? I'm not. I want those defense cuts. "He was offered the same deal in December that he proposed in October and turned it down. " Yeah; he won an election in Nov by saying that he would do something like that.

Obama is being too cute with this by talking to the country. We definitely disagree on this one. If the Reps won't negotiate, and they've certainly said they won't in as many ways and in as many venues as possible, then going to the country is a way to force them back to the table. And, I gather from press reports, that's been reasonably effective. As I recall, this was a Reagan tactic. And, while I would like to use every opportunity possible to criticize the Reagan legacy, this one always made sense to me.
