It is pretty silly to discuss "loopholes and subsidies" without naming them, because people can't agree on what they are. To some, the home mortgage interest deduction is a "loophole". The term "subsidy" doesn't really apply to taxation, other than if you're referring to refundable credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit.

So, why don't you tell us what it is specifically you're referring to?

The biggest "loopholes" are there because they are based on important fundamental precepts of accounting and/or taxation. For example, the favorable treatment of long-term capital gains and the section 179 deduction.

I just think if you're going to talk about this, it makes no sense to even mention it without being specific as to what you're referring to when you say "loopholes and 'subsidies'".
