They would buy the GMR heads from RDRT which in turn get the technology rom IBm. But it would take a while, may be by the end of next year.

My understanding is that IBM is licensing the tech out to 3rd parties (like RDRT) but will also be producing heads in house for sale. Not sure about the platters. Someone else had posted some rumor from an analyst that WDC would try something new ... I'm just speculating on what they may do if they have to take a hit. From the actual estimates of GMR, I think that the volumes would be quite small until end of 98 anyway.
