Ran in to the same thing in the U.S at a LCD. Said the bank was asking for checks or wire transfers. Don't know the volume of the LCD but one the the biggest in the Midwest.

The masters want to eliminate cash transactions. France has capped cash transactions at $1000 francs a day. Major changes coming but still years away in my opinion.
