There is no better spiritual text than The Bible. It is more important than you seem to know. Our Founding Fathers said that the Constitution was designed for God fearing people. Recent history illustrates this point. Wingnuts don't choose to follow the tenets of our dominant religion and see nothing wrong with inventing new Constitutional "rights" The Torah and The Bible express the basic foundations of our legal system. A building without a foundation soon falls. A legal system without a foundation soon fails. If you want to pursue some hocus pocus, it is your prerogative. If you want eternal life then you will have to come to grips with our God. If you are content with doing the work of man and then passing into dust then remain on the path you have charted.
