The Republic of CA wins again!! When people think of solar - they should think of jobs and innovation - you get something for that "higher cost". Just getting something cheaper is not always the best strategy. We can do this - there are all sorts of benefits - and actually, this is one of the areas where bioengineering is appropriate (as opposed to our food supply). Solar-driven energy harvesting may not rival photovoltaic, but biotech energy harvesting will cost a lot less to implement and is very scalable, producing all sorts of useful chemicals.
