A. Schulman says no longer pursuing Ferro takeover after 'reasonable' offer
A. Schulman (SHLM), which in March made a proposal to acquire Ferro (FOE) for $6.50 per share in cash and stock, stated on its third quarter earnings call that Ferro's board was given "ample time" to initiate a discussion, though since that has not happened, A. Schulman has decided to look elsewhere for acquisition opportunities. A. Schulman said it seeks to make "bolt-on" acquisitions in its specialty plastics business, though it is also open to exploring opportunities for "transformational" acquisitions. Schulman executives added that exploring the purchase of Ferro was "a good exercise" to gauge how responsive markets would be in terms of financing a larger transaction. Last night, A. Schulman reported quarterly results that missed analyst expectations and cut its outlook for adjusted fiscal year earnings per share. PRICE ACTION: In late morning trade, A. Schulman shares slid 6.25%, while Ferro declined 6.4%.
