The Queen routinely dispenses knighthoods to important entertainers that help the UK economy -- I doubt she is star struck. I saw what Michelle did as an appreciation of one of the biggest contributors to the US economy.


In the context of the British culture that is, I assume, appropriate. The Queen is supposed to do things like that.

Our President can award appropriate medals to citizens who have rendered service to the country.

To my knowledge their is no precedent for a President's wife to be announcing Oscar winners--there's no American cultural context for it.

It's not IMHO an acceptable role for the first lady.
