It was not business leaders who gave us democracy, it was the philosophers. Now, interestingly what you say is true of people who live by dogma, and true for most of the world, but it is not true of liberals because we do not live our lives by dogma, a set script we learn from birth. We liberals form our philosophy out of the newly discovered form of inductive reasoning and some old deductive reasoning, facts and logic. So in fact I would take your first sentence and turn it around: "I don't agree with their ideas because I have studied them and they are wrong. Wrong for a prosperous and happy society. IMO. And we are not a great nation because we had great business thinkers. That is dead wrong. We are a great nation because of the constitution, oru great natural wealth, and protection from invasion and our heterogeneous society. Any set of humans might have evolved a great country given those ingrediants. <<<<<< And it is telling the Republicans have no solid philosophy and not "one" first rate thinker.>>>> I have never seen a conservative who can out debate a liberal. Because they have to defend indefensible ideas. Try it. Harsh! Just because you don't agree with their ideas doesn't mean they aren't great thinkers. America became the greatest economic wonder of the modern world - largely on their ideas. Having safety nets, although very positive in every sense of the word, did not create this economic wonder we call America. Annnnnnnnd, if you think republicans have a monopoly on their thoughts when it comes to women, fishing, sports or even cars - you are sadly mistaken. >>
