That link and the following link were the genesis of my thinking that due to the increased complexity and speed at which some systems operate, the present risk analysis tools are woefully inadequate, and at best, give a false sense of security.

My interest is much more than theoretical, as nuclear power plants are analogous to flying an airplane; a complex interconnected system where each action provides a feedback that drives future decisions which arrive at increasing speed.

As discussed, complex systems do not lend themselves to mathematical modeling. Airline pilots and nuclear
power plant operators are trained in similar ways; on simulators that are designed through repetition to train the operator to react in the desired manner.

My responsibility to my clients includes not only their facilities, but the risks to their system of a Fukushima-like event anywhere in the United States.

I have no clear answers at this point...
