The best orthodontic treatment is good nutrients during pregnancy and childhood. Cod liver oil, vitamin C, protein and the rest results in straight good teeth which last a lifetime as they are designed to do. Food that chews helps too [not soft mush].

Unfortunately for my ancestors, their teeth were hopeless with mostly false teeth. My generation has loads of amalgam. Our children's are hole-free and one of them, the first, with me feeding cod liver oil etc got straight, strong and perfect teeth, the others who did not get such attention to their food supply got crooked teeth. Not many people take the trouble to learn how to produce healthy children. Most mothers are ignorant though it's the main thing they do in life. There is no licence required, no knowledge, no quality control during production. Getting pregnant is so easy to do it can be done blind drunk [and often is], with no training at all.

Feeding babies, infants and children requires no driving licence or years of professional training.

Any other important job [far less important] requires licenses, annual fees, training for years, degrees from approved universities and what have you. Buildings must be designed by approved people.

I am not suggesting licences be required to have babies. On the contrary. I'd do away with licences for other activities. No driving licences should be needed for example. If somebody fancies their chances at driving, they should be allowed to buy a car and give it a go. If they crash into somebody, they can sell a kidney to cover the cost if they haven't got cash on hand. They could buy insurance if they could find an insurer willing to bet they would not crash. Maybe insurers would test the insured to ensure they can drive. People would not lend their cars to people who cannot drive well.
