Do you remember in 2007 as the Dow was topping out. The US economy looked kind of sick other than real estate. Of course, employment and income were still much better than now. The cheerleaders were saying the US economy was not that critical because the emerging markets would carry the global economy without the US. That didn't work out too well and this reminds me of that. US corporations are all dressed up with no place to. Good balance sheets, decent earnings, but where does the growth come from. The last two booms in the US were driven by the wanton spending by the US middle class. They tapped out their stock portfolio ATM's in 1999/2000 and their home equity ATM's on 2007. You need multiple expansion to drive a stock bull from here. You need a large mob of greater fools to do that. I don't see the mob. The US middle class is tapped out, underemployed and underpaid in their opinion. I don't think they are up for another mania and I don't think it can happen without them. Now if Ben really drops pallets of cash in the streets, that's another story. It wouldn't surprise me if that was well underway by the end of the year, but I'm a skeptic on the S&P500 until it happens. Even if this low volume up a little every day continues I will stand aside.
