"The Founders never imagined how uninvolved, apathetic and ignorant the citizenry would become."

the fathers knew that's why only land owning men could vote, that group paid attention to what was going on

Your posts are totally out of place on this thread. They just make too damned much sense.

So, you say the founders were WRONG about something? It's likely they were WRONG about many things!

If the mainstream media were doing their job (as it was intended when the concept of freedom of the press was introduced), and if the electorate were taking seriously what is going on in D.C.,

The media is doing its job albeit reluctantly. The media's major problem is how slow it reacts to adverse behavior. It took them forever to show what a big a problem Bush/Cheney were and how bad the war in Iraq was going. It took years for them to stop praising the teaper movement and calling it for what it really was. They couldn't stop giving every idiot birther lots of attention every time one of those jackasses opened their mouths. Remember, the media very much reflects this country's politics which has been centrist/right of center for over 40 years. In fact, most of the media is owned by very large corps. that have a decidedly conservative bent. You wingers have gotten more than a fair break these past ten years. If the media is changing its tactics, and frankly, I doubt it, its because the GOP has become a huge fail. That's the fact you wingers refuse to accept and endorse. Instead, you try to blame everyone else for your problems.

As for the American people, the ones who are paying attention get what's happening........that's why Obama won by a sizable majority this past November and why the Dems did well in the Senate.

The GOP needs to stop blaming others for their ills and get introspective. I have been saying that for years.

>but we have reached the point where the average American knows little or nothing about this nation's heritage, how the government runs, and what those in power are actually attempting to do

Do we have any reason to believe that it's ever been any different?

>And a voter should have to pass some kind of minimal civics test. Such requirements once seemed un-American, but the American electorate has become so apathetic, lazy, uninformed, government-dependent, and politically illiterate that something has to be done to save our republic from the overwhelming power of the idiot contingent.

Don't forget uppity!
