The reality is that protecting the country -- whatever that is determined to be at a point in time -- is a legitimate function of government while buying food and health care for 1/6 of its residents is not.

Protecting the country from windmills is a goober function to be kind...it is criminally negligent to be more accurate. See, wasting the money is bad to be sure...wringing a whole lot of hurt on the people involved is a whole other level of negligence.

I believe you think the liberal approach is better, but it is just a lack of understanding of the way the world works on the parts of liberals.

I have not yet understood why it is that, when unemployment jumps from 5% to 10% (just to mention an example), folks like you come to the conclusion that a whole bunch of folks suddenly decided to become "bums"...i think it has something to do with that immature populism that I have mentioned before.

The invasion of Iraq did NOTHING to protect the country.
