From the full article:

"SOURCE: Microsoft Corp."

Gee, look at the source. You aren't presenting this as an unbiased market share report, are you?

Basically, the article says nothing. 60% of the financial institutions in the UK have at least one NT server installed... so what? No doubt more than that have at least one NetWare server installed. It doesn't give any information about relative market share, revenues, how the OS is being used (departmental file server?, application server?, web server?, enterprise network operating system?).

There are lies, damn lies, and marketing statistics. Do any "intelligent" investors make their investment decisions based on this kind of fluff?

Jerry

<<International Financial Institutions Adopt Windows NT Server at a Rapid Rate
Summary: REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Financial institutions worldwide are constructing their next-generation computer infrastructures on the Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) Server operating system. Kimsey Consultants reports that Windows NT is installed in 60 percent of financial institutions in the United Kingdom, 41 percent of financial institutions in France, and 79 percent of financial institutions in Germany. Mentis Corp. predicts Windows NT will be the primary operating system installed in 88 percent of banks in Australia by 2000.>>

Let's see, where do we start. Redmond, hmmmmm.... PRNewswire, hmmmmmmm, Kimsey Consultants (that paragon of objective market research) hmmmmmmmm. I will go on record and say that I will eat a floppy disk (disk de l'Antol) if any of these institutions use this stuff for ANY transaction processing, even by the year 2000. Just what we need, a bunch of NT Server in banks for disgruntled ex-employees to crack.

jww
(but what do I know, I'm not a technical person, my statements could never undermine the reputation NT Server has for rock solid stability, scalability, and security, no matter the computing environment).
