Regarding iran's involvement in Iraq, you need to pull your head out of your butt. I spent two years in Iraq and I know firsthand Iran's involvement, and their continued attempts to undermine Grand Ayatollah Al-Sistani. The holiest cities in shi'ism are in Iraq; karbala and Najaf. The Persians have always been "pretenders to the throne" when it comes to leading the Shi'ite faith. They need to control those cities as much as the Saudis need to control Mecca and Medina..

Hence, the Quds force has remained an active player in Iraq for that purpose, as well as to have a line of communications to Syria and Lebanon..

As for Chavez, Venezuela remains one of the murder and kidnapping centers of the world. And the plight of the poorare hardly any better off now than before. But they were his power base, and his protection. But the private sector has been gutted in the process.

But, more importantly, Chavez relied on enabling acts to manipulate the political process and remain in power, a tactic he learned from Adolfo Hitler. And he pilfered billions of dollars from the Venezuelan people, and now his family controls it.

The logic is just like with the Democrats in America.. You keep people poor, and dependent upon the government, they won't rebel. Gut the private sector, and make everybody dependent and they will vote for for you. They have no other choice.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that there are not abuses with capitalism. But the only thing the government politicians know how to do is redistribute wealth that has been created by the private sector.

Warren, Venezuela's official inflation rate is 22% now..

The Bolivar has been devalued 5 TIMES in the past decade, most recently by 1/3!!!

Furthermore, nearly 70% of all goods, or the raw materials to make them, sold in Venezuela are IMPORTED.. Food shortages are common..

So tell us, once again, just how Chavez was so good for the country's poor? Anyone with basic understanding of economics knows that inflation devastates the purchasing power of the poor, most of whom are on fixed incomes (especially if they are employed in some gov't jobs program).

And because the private sector has been gutted, they must rely upon imported goods, which have to purchased with that devalued currency.

So this article is telling us that, on the black market, US Dollars are going for 3x the official exchange rate..

businessweek.com

So tell us again how all of these policies and actions by Chavez's leadership benefited "the people"..

I need a good laugh tonight..
